Traditions generally take precedence over the doctrines of the gospel. Christmas perpetuates a fundamental falsehood - the reality of Santa Clause - and requires parents to lie to their children and Church leaders to publicly dissemble.
Easter, like Christmas, was originally a pagan festival and has nothing to do with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Church has a to force fit Easter into an acceptable gospel setting. Other celebrations, such as Thanksgiving and Halloween create behaviors that are repugnant to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
